Rescue Puppy Painting, "Odin Gets a Treat."

  • Pet Art

Odin and his Rescue Dad walked into the Dunkin’ Donuts on Central where I was sketching one night, and sat down at the table near me. His owner began telling me the horrendous tale the night Odin was rescued, while I began this painting!

Odin, a Rescue Puppy I met at Dunkin' Donuts one night...

"...a weird sound was coming from the dumptser!..."

I couldn’t help noticing this little 4-Pawed Ball of Love when he appeared in the Dunkin' Donuts where I was working on another art project late one night. I was out on the patio away from the bustle of the crowds showing up inside, and this guy and this sweet little pit bull puppy sit down next to me, and I notice the guy's giving his pup his own ice cream cone!

Of course, having an inquisitive artist's mind, I absolutely must ask. And Odin's Rescue-Dad tells me the best story.

One night he'd been walking through an alley, and he heard a weird sound coming from a dumpster he passed by. It kept bothering him, so he finally decided to get closer, and when he turned over some scraps, he discovered a puppy in a box, in that very dumpster! Well, he wasn't having any of that!

So he instantly rescued this little pit bull puppy, and Odin became a part of his family. That very night that I was sitting there, was there usual anniversary night where he brings Odin to the Dunkin' Donuts where they get to have an ice cream cone together!

What I used to paint "Odin Gets a Treat"

"Odin Gets a Treat," this little pit bull painting, was the first painting I made with my Caran d'ache water-soluble pastels, which I've come to absolutely love.

I had been experimenting also with painting on archival styrofoam, so I primed a custom-sized piece of this foam with several layers of first acrylic primer to fully seal it, and then oil based primer, and then began with the pastels. Only Caran d'ache pastels were used in this piece. I really enjoy how the surface texture of the styrofoam gives an intersting surface to the painting, very similar to the tile floor Odin was laying on while he ate his anniversary ice cream cone!
